Based in Edmonton, Alberta, Kierstin Smyth has an eye for style and a passion for design. Growing up, Kierstin's family was always renovating their own home, allowing her to be involved in the work and decision-making from an early age. She quickly learned that it wasn't just her own vision that she enjoyed following – the real appeal was shaping others' dreams into spaces that they truly loved and that represented them best.

Already armed with both a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Alberta, Kierstin's savvy extends beyond pure aesthetics. She likes to think of her education as a means to formalize her natural ability and instinct for design. She is a graduate of the Residential Interiors program, with Distinction, at the University of Alberta and, coupled with a Project Management Certificate from MacEwan University, is a force of efficiency and grace.

We worked with Kierstin Smyth Design throughout our entire build process. She advised on our layout prior to building and provided us with valuable insight we would have overlooked. She attended all of our selection meetings with us to give guidance on materials and finishes, liaised with our builder and helped us understand the more technical elements of the process. She has impeccable taste, so we kept her on to assist with our furniture and decor too. We could not have taken on this project without her expertise and extraordinary vision. The outcome was beyond anything we had anticipated, we love our new home so much! Having her by our side not only saved us a lot of time and stress but money too. We without a doubt highly recommend that others who are about to build consider having Kierstin as part of their team.

Upon interviewing a number of industry professionals, Kierstin Smyth Design immediately stuck out as the design company I wanted to work with.

I already had a lot of ideas of what I wanted to achieve in updating my condo, however Kierstin helped me transform these ideas into a concrete plan, sharing additional ideas and inspiration along the way. In addition to providing project oversight, Kierstin worked with me to refine and streamline my design ideas, identify high-quality materials (passing along her industry discount), and connect me with talented local professionals (at my price point) to undertake the work.

Kierstin eased the stress of managing such an extensive project and was a joy to work with - I will be recommending Kierstin Smyth Design to all of my contacts undertaking anything from minor redesign work to major renovations!

When my husband and I first decided to build a house, excitement quickly turned into stress with the amount of questions and choices being thrown at us. Kierstin consulted on our new build project, and what a relief it was to know that with an expert's opinion, we ensured a consistent look and feel throughout the space we would call "home" in a few short months. The selection studio was the most stressful aspect and Kierstin's guidance on which upgrades were "worth it" and which were not was exactly what we needed when evaluating cost and benefits. While the builder's team is helpful, it's great to have someone on your team who only has your interests at heart. Kierstin made this whole process a lot easier. Truly thank you for all your help Kierstin.

We've been utilizing Kierstin's design consultation services to make decorative improvements to our space. She provided us with ideas on dealing with the unique features/spaces in our home, designed the layout of a large photo/feature wall and helped us to frame our photos and art beautifully and within our budget. We highly recommend Kierstin Smyth Design!

Kierstin Smyth Design was brought in at the last minute, right before major renovations began. Kierstin did a great job choosing multiple products and finishes in a very short timeline and under pressure, considering both my aesthetic tastes and increasing the home's resale value. The end result was a completely transformed space! She was very professional and was able to work well with our contractor when questions or issues came up.  Working with her made the entire process less stressful and definitely more enjoyable!

During our renovations we had unloaded many of our former furnishings and were getting by with left over pieces until we could acquire what we really wanted. With the last of the finishing work coming to an end we were ready to invest in a few new furnishings, but wanted to be sure that they would work well with other pieces that we were not able to upgrade yet.  We also needed some help with size and scale to ensure that purchases would be an appropriate size for our small home.

We did have a limited budget for furnishings and with a few years ahead of us with young messy children and a scratch-happy kitty cat, we felt most comfortable investing in the TV stand, shelving, the coffee table and hutch, saving upholstered purchases for the future.
With a new baby on the way, having someone take care of this for us with our input was fabulous!  My husband was so thankful he didn’t have to drive around the city to pick these pieces out with me.  We loved that she did most of the leg work for us limiting our time searching for the right products.
Having a plan ensured that we didn’t make purchases that we would regret and kept us focused on finishing the space. Having her opinion when we were struggling with an idea helped us to make decisions and move forward.  She was timely in her deliverables, cognizant of our budget and her service packages met our needs. We absolutely loved working with Kierstin and the investment in her design services was worth every penny!

I hired Kierstin Smyth of Kierstin Smyth Design to assist me in my recent renovation to our home.  Kierstin is knowledgeable about design principles and a pleasure to work with. She helped me achieve the look that I wanted and gave me support in clarifying my vision. What sets her apart from other designers that I've worked with is her level of organization and the clarity of her communications. My husband and I are extremely happy with the results of our renovation. We are especially pleased with the lack of stress in achieving it, owing much to Kierstin's design advice and product selections which appropriately tied together all the varied elements of our home.

I have worked with Kierstin Smyth Design for the past 2 years. I was impressed at how she took the time to truly get to know me, my home and my taste. She was able to incorporate my unique style to create for me a functional and beautiful space that I absolutely love. Kierstin has handled all aspects of the design process for me, creating design concepts, sourcing products, recommending tradespeople, and arranging renovation projects. She frequently went above and beyond the call of duty, even assembling my furniture and installing curtain rods herself if necessary. She cheerfully worked around my irregular schedule, and when I was out of town, she managed renovations to be done in my absence so that I could return home to the completed product. I have complete trust in her judgment and would recommend her services without hesitation. Thank you, Kierstin, for sharing your amazing vision and ideas which have transformed this townhouse into my perfect, cozy, quirky dream home.

I worked with Kierstin on two separate projects to update my condo.  The first was to repair and upgrade a shower in the master bath the second was  to pick out lighting for my home.  It was a bit of a challenge trying to blend my taste (southwestern) with already existing decor.  The bathroom reno was especially challenging to find a southwestern type tile and match to the existing bathroom flooring and counter tops. Both times Kierstin spent the time with me going over ceramic tile samples and types of lighting, and explaining what things I needed to take into consideration, not only to give me the look I wanted but what would be good for resale value.  She was there for me from beginning through to installation; I can't wait to have her back to do the rest of the interior design. I absolutely love my new lights and shower!

In the spring of 2016, I had the opportunity to work with Kierstin when we decided to update our main level. We have a 4 split level so we decided to start on the main level. We wanted to have the ceilings done (they were stipple and wanted California knockdown). Kierstin recommended a texturing contractor who did an amazing job in our living/ dining/ hallway and once that was done Kierstin suggested paint colours for the kitchen, dining room, living room and hallway. We wanted the to do the 3rd level but decided we would wait till January 2017 before tackling that area.

In January 2017 I once again contacted Kierstin and asked if she would mind helping me with paint colours, flooring, fireplace surround ideas/tile and vanity/lighting for bathroom. An appointment was made and she showed up with carpet samples, tile samples for bathroom floor, tile samples for fireplace surround and ideas as to what we could do with surround for fireplace as well as floating shelving idea for pony wall. We also had ceilings redone and again used the texturing contractor that had been recommended last spring by Kierstin.

Kierstin was very accommodating and kept in contact through email during the project and willing to help in any way if a problem should arise. Kierstin is a very knowledgeable individual who listens to your needs, is there when you ask her questions regarding difficult situations. If she is unsure about anything she will research and suggest alternatives if necessary. Kierstin will give you advice, stay within your budget and understands deadlines. I would recommend Kierstin Smyth Design to my friends or anyone who is looking for an interior decorator.
