2022 Tile Wishlist

A while back on Instagram I was discussing how, as a designer, I always have a sometimes secret, sometimes not-so-secret wish list of products that I’m really wanting to use on a project. And it turns out, you all want to know what’s on my wish list! So I thought I’d start out with the product that began this conversation in the first place: TILE!

So here we go, my current tile wish list and the reasons why I love each one.

Quick disclaimer: These are in no particular order, and there are also so many other tiles out there that I love. These are just a few that have caught my eye as I’ve been sourcing and inspired me. All photos are sourced from the suppliers and the copyright belongs to them.

Centura Gatsby

8”x8” Wall Tile

This tile speaks to my soul because I love an historic-inspired tile. I feel like this would be great as an accent tile, possibly as the backsplash behind a statement range, or the wall behind the sink or toilet of a powder room. I love this Lead Tin colour, but the White Tin and Green Tin in the same range are also so good.

Centura Penny Round

12”x12” Mosaic Floor and Wall Tile

Penny tile is a classic that I always love. Obviously I chose the black but if it were me, I’d do a black grout with it to make it more of a textural feel, rather than contrasting. This is a tile I love to use on a shower floor, as it keeps things naturally grippy. And there are quite a few colours that allow you to pull in the colour of your other tile choices.

Tabarka Studio Bauer

6”x6” Wall and Floor Tile

This is a hand-painted terracotta tile which means lots of variation and also means a higher price point. But come on, how beautiful is this tile! Once again I like all the colours in this series, but the Foresta (pictured below) is my favourite. There are only so many places where this tile would suit; I’d likely use it as an accent wall or flooring in a powder room.

Tierra Sol Ekxtreme Onyx

63”x126” Wall and Floor Slab Tile

You’ll soon notice that large format porcelain slabs are on my wish list a few times. I really love this Onyx series because the movement in it is just beautiful. While I’m drawn to the Onyx Blue, I feel like the Onyx White or Onyx Grey would be a stunning backdrop for a feature wine wall.

Artistic Tile Aura Field Tile

24”x24” Wall and Floor Tile

As the manufacturer description states, this tile is like a beautiful impressionist painting, and it has so many applications! For some reason I feel drawn to using this in a laundry room – particularly in the Blue option. I also love the Green option but am not as big of a fan of the Beige.

Julian Tile Flauti

2”x8” Wall Tile

I’m totally one of those people who is always touching things when I’m out sourcing, so of course I love a textural tile. The variation of flat tiles combined with inward and outward bevel tiles. Again, I enjoy all of the colour options, and would love to use this on a fireplace, paired with a contrasting wood tone.

Ames Lux Experience Panda White

47.25”x102.4” Slab Wall Tile

Let’s be honest, I love the look of a porcelain slab tile in a shower because I all I can think about is how few grout lines there are. This makes me happy both from a visual perspective and from a cleaning perspective. These slabs come in a couple difference faces, meaning you can create a larger pattern with them – such as book-matching. Panda White is by far my favourite because I always love a bold black and white look.

Tile and Stone Source Station Series

12”x24” Floor and Wall Tile

Okay technically I have already selected this tile for a project, but it’s not one of “my” projects so I feel like it doesn’t count. I feel like if you’re into the terrazzo trend but wanting a more subtle, classic version of it, this is the tile for you. It’s a porcelain 12”x24” tile that I want to use more for tiled shower surrounds. It also comes in a darker gray colour and ivory, but I love the clean subtle look of Pearl.

Mosaïque Surface Rêve D’Orient, Wabi Sabi Petite

Custom Mosaic Tile

I mean, what can I even say. This is just one of many incredibly beautiful mosaics that they offer. But something about this one really speaks to me. Just imagine this on the floor of your luxurious and spa-like ensuite. This is a true mosaic where each piece is placed by hand. So, so stunning.

Ames Nagoya

7/8”x5 3/4” Wall Tile

I love using this size of tile vertically and as a feature in bathrooms. Just picture this running along the walls of a bathroom as wainscotting. So good. I’m partial to the green and white options but the dark green is also quite dreamy. It’s a crisp and simple look while still being visually impactful.

Olympia Tile Oceani

2.5”x10” Wall and Floor Tile

Classic Subway but with a kick. First off, I love an elongated subway tile. I also like a subway tile with some texture. And yes, add in some bold, fun colours, and I’m really in. My favourite is obviously the black – it’s delicious – but I truly resonate with all the colours and feel like they would be such a perfect representation of the client in whatever space is chosen. I’d definitely lean towards a bathroom for this tile, but in the right kitchen, this tile could also make an amazing backsplash.

Dal Tile Panoramic Porcelain Couture, Jungle

Various Size Slab Tile

I mean, how fun is this tile mural! Just imagine this as the feature of a walk-in shower paired with other crisp white tile and accented with warm wood cabinetry and accessories. And plants. Obviously there are other plants in this bathroom. While this is a custom order product, I think there are so many possibilities to really make a statement in different areas of your home or business.

Tile and Stone Source Boardwalk Picket

3”x9” Wall Tile

I really enjoy a tile shape that looks like it started out life as a subway tile, and then added a creative twist. I particularly love the Denim colour of this picket shape, and there are many other excellent shades available. This is great for a kitchen backsplash, to add some extra character and possibly a pop of colour too.

Jeffrey Court Black Tie Ballroom Mosaic

10”x13” Floor and Wall Tile

This marble mosaic is a stunner. I am totally envisioning it in a moody, masculine kitchen where it’s featured as the backsplash. With blacks and rich woods, maybe a hint of gold.

Red Rock Tileworks x Hechizo

1”x3” Wall Tile

Classic subway is obviously classic for a reason, so when I came across this “tile jewelry” I absolutely loved the idea of adding a bit of uniqueness to that classic tile. These tiles are meant to be placed in-between your subway tiles. There is even a wall hook option in a 3”x3”. Very fun and very cool.

So there you have it! I’d love to know which one (or ones) speak to you as well. Let me know in the comments below.
