It's the final curtain for some of our favourite window coverings
You might already know, but just in case you don’t, that I’m a specialist for Hunter Douglas, who manufacture really awesome, high quality, innovative blinds and window coverings. I really enjoy partnering with clients to find solutions that will help them achieve the right balance of natural light for their space. Some of the products even help to keep the heat of summer and cold of winter outside where it belongs!
Health Canada Regulations
I’m telling you this today because Health Canada has recently announced upcoming changes to the Consumer Product Safety Act, including regulations for corded window coverings, and that’s going to have a pretty significant impact on Hunter Douglas’s product line. It’s all to do with cords and small parts and their accessibility to children. You can read the full text of the regulation if you really want to get your nerd on (go for it!) but what it boils down to is, Hunter Douglas and other manufacturers will have to modify, replace or discontinue products that aren’t compliant.
I know that some of you have been contemplating some of the impacted Hunter Douglas blinds for your own homes, so I want to make sure you have the chance to get your blinds ordered and installed before they disappear forever! That sounds a bit dramatic, but really in this case, the clock is ticking.
We’re here to help!
For many products, we still have just enough time to place orders. Changes come into effect onMay 1, 2022. If you want to snag some of these excellent designs before they disappear, book a consultation before April 8th!
What is Impacted
Almost every product line is impacted by these changes but likely the biggest change to one of my clients’ favourite features is the discontinuation of Top-Down / Bottom-Up operation on Duette, Applause, Alustra, Provenance and Solera.
The following designs will be replaced by new, innovative, and /or compliant systems after April 15, 2022:
Duette & Applause Top-Down/Bottom-Up is discontinued but the Duolite option will still be available.
UltraGlide with Cord Operation will be replaced with Wand Operation
Designer Roller Shades, Designer Screen Shades, and Alustra Woven Textures Roller Shades with Custom Clutch and Clutch Operation will now have a Concealed Control when in a static position.
Parkland Wood Blinds, EverWood Alternative Wood Blinds, and 2” Modern Precious Metals Aluminum Blinds will be available with a completely new operating system.
Already own these products? Don’t worry, discontinued products will still be covered by the Limited Lifetime warranty.
