3 Items you Should Consider for your Bathroom Renovation

Like a lot of my content ideas, this one came from a conversation I had with another designer. I found myself saying, “I don’t understand why we aren’t doing more of these things in bathrooms!” And then it hit me - maybe I should write a post about it!

So, if you’re planning a bathroom update (especially when it comes to electrical planning), here are three things we’re starting to see more of in our projects and would love to see even more of.

Toilets with Bidet Functionality

This is something we’re incorporating into designs more and more, and honestly, once you’ve used a toilet with a bidet function, it’s hard to go back. Even if you’re not planning on upgrading now, I always recommend adding power near the toilet during a renovation so you have the option in the future.

For some clients, a simple Tushy attachement works perfectly. For others, we’re installing high-end options like Toto’s Washlet with all the bells and whistles. Either way, bidet functionality is becoming the new standard and everyone I know who’s made the switch (myself included) swears by it.

LED Mirrors

We’ve been specifying these more often, and with good reason! The price point has become much more accessible and having front-facing lighting makes such a difference for makeup application, shaving and skincare. No more weird shadows - just bright, even illumination.

Many models now include smart features like anti-fog technology and touch-dimming. Another bonus? You can often skip a separate vanity light, which means you can put that budget toward the mirror itself. We often use Fleurco products in our designs, but there are plenty of great options, including medicine cabinet versions with built-in outlets for charging toothbrushes and other devices.

Towel Warmers

I truly don’t understand why these aren’t more common in Canada. Who doesn’t want a warm towel waiting for them after a shower, especially in winter?

Our go-to brand is ICO Bath, which offers a range of styles, finishes, and both plug-in and hardwired options. Beyond the cozy factor, towel warmers help dry towels faster, reducing moisture buildup in the bathroom. Most are energy-efficient, programmable and can even be used for drying delicate clothing and swimsuits. Just avoid using them with microfiber or synthetic quick-dry towels!

So now that you know what I want to see more of in bathrooms, which one would you want to incorporate into yours?

Let me know!
