Petit Design Concept: Nature Nursery

We don’t always get to see the “after” of the Petit Design Concepts we create for clients, but really love it when we do! For this nursery e-design in Edmonton, we were asked to design a functional space with a nature vibe while repurposing and incorporating some existing pieces. The original space was a small guest room so our biggest challenge was ensuring that everything that was needed fit into the space! Let’s take a look at the design and how it turned out!

As mentioned, our clients had a few existing items that they wanted to incorporate, the main one being a sideboard that had previously been used for storage, as well as their existing rug. For the sideboard, we gave some recommendations on ideal height, new hardware and new legs, so that it could serve the dual purpose of change table and storage (and it can go back to being a sideboard with the swap back to higher legs in the future)! They also wanted to keep at least one of their plants in the space and had already purchased the crib.

Here are the two options we proposed in the Petit Design Concept:

For our Petit Design Concepts, we always put together at least 2 looks but for this space, the layout was essentially set just given the orientation of the room and the size of the furniture. The desired vibe for the space was warm neutrals with pops of green, giving it a real nature feel. The artwork and wall stencils helped to bring it all together, along with the handcrafted leaf mobile.

In the end, you can see which option they went with overall, but there are a few items from the other option that made their way into it.

And we even captured a cute photo of the room’s inhabitant and his fur brother too. We love that their dog has his own spot in the space, giving him a spot to still be part of the action while getting used to having a baby in the family.

Because the room is quite small, we created this multi-purpose corner with the rocker, lamp (that also has its own table built-in) and book ledges. Perfect for nursing, reading and relaxing!

Using the walls for additional storage also helps to make great use of the space, especially when combining a bit of hanging storage and shelf storage.

We love all the little details that have gone into the space. From the natural wood blocks, to the tree decals and the favourite stuffed animals.

Here’s what our clients had to say about the Petit Design Concept process:

“During a time when you have so much on your mind, getting ready for baby to arrive, the Petit Design Concept made the process of completing the nursery so easy! I didn’t even have to worry about where to find everything - the shopping links were right there!”
