A Home that Welcomes you Back
Last month I had the pleasure of attending a business retreat in London, England, with the business mentor I’ve worked with for a few years now and 3 other incredible women entrepreneurs. While the actual retreat and my subsequent vacation time were amazing, something that I ended up discussing with one of the other participants as we both made our way back to our respective homes is how good it feels to come back to a home that has been designed just for you.

I absolutely love to travel and always try to stay in beautiful, unique hotels that I can gain inspiration from. Prior to purchasing and renovating our current home in Edmonton, those hotel visits would be ones where I’d dream about one day having some of the features or elements within them as my own. And when it came time to design our home, many of those features were included. It likely comes as no surprise that we put a lot of thought into our space, particularly the areas where we started from scratch. I don’t just talk about creating a home to feel the way you want to feel, I live it too.
Now, when I travel, I still get inspired by the designs around me… but because they haven’t been specifically designed for how I like to interact and function in my space, I will miss my own home. Will I still think about implementing a particular feature, fixture or finish into my own space? Of course!
But I’m no longer spending time in these spaces wishing they could be mine.
I know it can be hard to understand the profound impact that a well-designed, just for you, home can have on your overall wellbeing if you haven’t experienced it before. But I promise it’s true.
In that chat I was having with one of the other retreat participants, she said,
”travelling is awesome but coming home is also really great when you’ve created a home that you love. “
I couldn’t agree more.
All of this to say that I’d encourage you to think about how you feel when you’re in those unique and beautiful spaces on your travels and then how you feel in your own home. If there is a disconnect, it may be time to consider updates that could make your own home more enjoyable and functional for you… A home that creates those feelings you experience elsewhere - whether it is the spa like shower experience, the sense of grounding you feel with the use of natural materials, feeling inspired by architectural elements or the luxurious and cozy feel of the bedding.
Whether it’s a small change like updating your bedding or a large change like a bathroom renovation, taking the time to create a home that supports you in how you want to feel each and every day is always going to be worth the effort and investment.
This belief that the design of our homes can improve our lives for the better is the basis of why we do what we do here. We absolutely love guiding our clients through the process of discovering how they want to feel in their homes and creating design elements that will support them in their day to day lives.
